With
the change of seasons
brings changes in our skin. Moving into the fall and winter months
generally brings dry, dehydrated skin which can lead to irritation and
sensitivity.
So what can we do to protect our skin?
1.
Use a humidifier to put moisture back into the air to prevent dry skin.
Keep this on your nightstand next to your bed to receive benefits while sleeping.
2.
Moisturize.
Key ingredients include squalane, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid and
ceramides. Apply your moisturizer over Vitamin C Serum. Don’t forget to
treat around your eyes with an eye cream that is appropriate for your
skin type. Dry, dehydrated skin will cause fine lines
and wrinkles to look more prominent, therefore don’t miss this very
important step!
Our Vitamin C Illuminating Antioxidant Serum and Hyaluronic
Acid Hydration Cream are the perfect duo for fall and winter. These
products provide your skin with antioxidant protection and hydration.
3.
Decrease the frequency of retinol and alpha hydroxy acids.
These ingredients can normally dry the skin, therefore these dry months
may require you to cut back on these ingredients to 1or 2 days per week
to avoid irritation.
4.
Exfoliate & Mask.
Exfoliation with a gentle scrub is key to sloughing off the buildup of
dead skin cells. Avoid aggressive scrubs as they can actually damage the
skin. Applying a hydrating facial mask after exfoliation will allow
your mask to penetrate and work more effectively.
Perform this combination treatment 1-2 times per week.
5.
Don’t forget about sunscreen!
SPF is necessary all year round therefore use a broad spectrum UVA/UVB
SPF 30. Reminder that all SPF’s only last 2-3 hours so re application
is important.
6.
Professional facials nourish and defend against dry, irritated skin.
They’re also great for relaxation and our mental health!
7.
Professional procedures which minimize sun damage include chemical peels
(my favorite is the ViPeel), laser, and intense pulsed light
photofacial. Fall and winter is the ideal time of year to receive these
services as we spend less time outside in the sun.
The
combination of an effective at home skincare regimen and in office
treatments will allow your skin to be happy and healthy. The first step
is starting at home with ingredients that are effective and appropriate
for your skin type. Now is the time to
start getting your skin holiday season ready!
